Allow, or don’t allow?

So as you can see above, there are some apps on Facebook promising such things as:

  • Telling you how many hours you have spent on Facebook.
  • Telling you who your “stalkers” are.
  • Seeing a story about a “major” news story.

But is that really what they are offering?

As an app developer I would like to say that there are legitimate apps that will ask for these permissions. As a Facebook user I know that 80% of people who read this don’t care what permissions they grant and a large percentage of those aren’t administrators of any pages.

So why write this article at all then? Well I thought that I would appeal to the remaining 20%. Many people preach the wonders of Anti-virus software and anti-spy-ware software, but security should start way before that. You need to prepare yourself for every click that you make or intend to make. Now I am NOT an security expert I am an end user who has common sense. Evil software is designed to do one thing and one thing only and that is to spread as fast as it can to as many devices as it can before it is caught by security labs.

In all just think about what you are doing, the more apps that you grant permissions to the more holes you create in not only your security but your friends, families and colleagues, maybe even your customers.
